I have a 06' F-250 6.0 PSD, whenever I first get to my truck, either in the morning, or whenever it sits around for a while, there is always a very slow crank, reguardless if I allow the glow plugs to warm up fully or not. Iv spoken with some friends of mine after work when they hear how long it to takes for my engine to kick over, and they had said that it shouldnt take as long as it is. Are there any sugestions as to the problem, if there is a problem, or maybe how to fix to slow crank?
saw this on another site, check tightness of battery connections, should'nt be able to move them, also check the tightness of the ground strap the bolts to the block (not sure where it is). Could be a bad battery maybe some one else will have an idea.
cranking or starting? if its cranking then check your batteries. even if the glow plug light is off the glow plugs still are on for up to 120 seconds given oil temp. if its starting problem it could be hpop problem, injectors etc.

i have same problem, will start right up if warm but cold sometimes close to 5 sec to fire up. i don't worry thats what warranty is for if something breaks in she goes. but it has had hpop problems already sometimes starts right up sometimes a good 5 sec crank
what i am curious about is . what happens besides fuel pump priming and glow plugs heating up when key is placed in on position? is fuel pumped into the cylinders during key on phase? as i was told by someone to cycle the key on and off a couple times to help with this.

I had the same problem in the morning.Took her in and the put new batteries under warranty with 35,800 miles.Problem solved
This may be posted somewhere else, I havent looked, but on my old 7.3 (and I'm assuming the 6.0 is the same) if the engine computer doesnt "see" 100+ RPM's when cranking, you will have a hard time getting it to start, if you crank it long enough it will. Believe me it is very hard to tell if your at or just below the magical 100 RPM's. The cause in my case was one of the batteries was almost toast (had 1/2 cranking capacity it should have).
This is what was explained to me, and the new battery (under warranty I might add) cured the problem instantly. You will be surprised to know how much agravation I had to go through to find this peice of information, so I suspect it may not be very widely known) or maybe I'm the only one who didnt know !!
