I just got my 07 truck and I am very happy with the performance. But as I was looking it over I notice that the drivers side fender doesn't have the rubber skirt shielding the engine and there are no fender liners in the rear wheel wells. This gives the potential for the whole underneath filling up with ice/slush this winter. WTF? This isn't going to save Ford by cutting $5.00 worth of plastic and rubber for what I would consider a fairly important part of the truck. I am planning to go to the stealer at noon and see how much it is going to cost to get this stuff. I have looked a numerous Rangers and the older ones are protected, but the new ones are not. This really sucks. Has anyone else noticed this?
I have to think that the flap was modified for some reason other than saving a few cents, otherwise they would have done it to both sides. The only reason I can see is that it provides better air flow for cooling. I decided to leave mine the way it is.
The fender liners are the bad part though. Without them you can toss mud and, during the winter, ice and worse, SALT up in there, which will very quickly rust right through any metal it hits.
They removed them to help keep underhood temperatures down while testing in really high heat I hear. I bought one for $19 new at the dealership and I am pretty sure it was listed under '05 maybe not though. Even came with those fancy christmas tree fasteners already. Our Explorer and expedition don't have the driver's side flap either. The dealer ones are really thick rubber composite, not like the cloth type cheapy ones...
