I did it with a buddy, I recommend being 2 for the job. In a perfect world it would take a day, but you'll probably run into little things here and there so calculate the weekend.
Disconnect the steering column(read the lift kit ins.)
From in side the cab remove the shifter boots and shifter(read ins.)
Do the cab first, loosen all the bolts first and leave them threaded a little (do not remove the bolts) Lift one side at a time. When you've decided what side you'll start with remove those bolts, leaving the other side with the partially threaded bolts (this is to prevent the body from sliding of the frame) Use a jack with some lumber to lift. Lift Slowly, carefully checking that nothing is binding or caught up anywhere. This is where you might notice something to modify or alter.
The bed is straight foward... one side at a time.
This body lift sure doesn't seem worth it to me, like I say, it sounds like you'll be hacking your truck up just to look hoaky. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against mods, just read my sig, I think you would be much happier, and do the truck justice with a suspenion lift. It's ot to late, send that sucker back, get your money and buy a real lift kit if you must have one, not a poser kit, When you go to bigger tires, plan on swapping your 4:10 gears for a set of 4:56's, your clutch will like you better, and your 4 banger won't get robbed of all it's performance. Since your father got you the truck, just build it as a keep sake, take your time, do it right, and the old truck can become a life long hobby, something you csn pass down to your kids.
