I Need Advice/Tips

I have a 3 inch body lift kit on the way. It will actually be here tomorrow. Can anybody give me tips on what to look out for or anything to speed up the process or just to look for. Im putting it on a 95 Ford Ranger 4cyl. 4x4 Manual Trans. Also I really can afford to get wheels and tires right now which i really want to. So do you think these tires/wheels will be alright on the truck for awhile? I will post a link or picture so you can see. Thanks, and any help given THANKS[/img]

Once you put a lift kit on the truck, those tires will look small, so you may want to move up a little in size.

Not as bad as the body lift will look with the gap between the body, and the frame, also the bumpers. You may need a shifter extender, so you won't have to bend down to shift it, I just don't like body lifts. I would have just saved up for a suspenion lift. I know you don't want to hear this as you are excited about your lift. On the positive side, don't worry about the tires, just put on the mods as money allows, keep in mind the big piture, the finished product. You have a sweet looking little truck, good luck with it !!

Also a good point Bob, bigger tires, and poor areodynamics from the lift will make your little 4 cylinder sruggle, looks good the way it is.

I agree Wendell!! If he doesn't change the diff. ratios he will get poorer performance, and poorer gas mileage with the larger tires!!!

Any mods like this will decrease the value of the truck!!!

More so with a body lift as far as decreasing the value, because of all the gaping, and misalignment of the pedals, steering colume, shifter, and 4x4 lever. Waves would disagree with me, but I'm not a fan of body lifts, I feel it would ruin a nice clean little truck. Were not trying ti bring you down or anything, we just want you to think it through, to nice a truck for a hack job like a body lift. I would go one size bigger tire when you can afford it, like a 30/9.50 BFG AT KO, a good lsd, and a set of bilstein shocks, it will be plenty capable offroad as well as on, and it won't be hacked up, it will still look orginal, and sharp !

Good for you, I mean going through with the install despite the negativity!!! That being said When I did my body lift, I had to sawzall my bushing sleaves. This was not a problem for me seeing I had allready bought a cab mount bushing set. I recommend you change the bushings while you're in there. You will need to extend your shifter but you may have the shifter extension with the lift, if not JC Whitney sells one. The steering column extension that comes with the kit usually is garbage (it cost me a new steering gear, only a month after install) I made my own in the end and it's been doing the trick now for around 3 yrs. As for the 4x4 shifter, I removed it, cut it, extended/welded it. You must have push button though if I'm not mistaking. Did you get bumper relocation brackets? if not, it's true it'll look a little odd. As for the gaps between body and frame... they never bothered me at all. The exhaust in time you might wanna tuck up closer to the body.
I think that pretty much covers it. Oh don't forget to use liquid wrench on the bolts before hand and you may need to heat up a few with a torch.

Good Luck.

My 4x4 is not a push button. It is a shift column on the floor next to the shifter. I have the shifting extension, but now you say that there is something you have to add the the 4x4 shift column? Is this an absolute must? The kit came with everything from bumper brackets to the shifting extension. Keep the feedback coming fellas its helping me out. I will probably be putting this kit on here this weekend or next. THANKS

Well if the lift is 3"s you'll need to add a 3" same diameter rod extension to the original shifter. Same story if you went with the 2". If this is a must, well only when you're done you'll know for sure. The shifter allready doesn't come up high off the floor, so say it comes up 5"s, well with a 3" lift, you now have a 2" shifter, not extacly the best for either leverage or looks even.
What I did was I cut the shifter in the middle of the rod, and added/welded in 2" of same diameter rod. (I had the 2" lift) It put me exactly at the stock shifter height from inside the cab.
