I was wondering if some one could tell me if the abs sensors are only in the front wheels and if they are replaceable by them selves or do I have to buy a new wheel bearing assembly because the ABS light is on and driving me crazy.........
I had the a ABS light problem with my 2001. The light would generally come on when/after making a sharp turn, however, it would clear when I shut the truck down and might not come on again for quite a while. It never did prevent the use of cruise, even while on, which I have been told, is a sure sign of ABS malfunction. Changed the rear axel sensor but this did not fix it. Finally took it to the dealer to read the codes. Dealer said it showed no codes but the problem could be in either front hub sensor or with the ABS unit itself. He said if the light started to stay on, to bring it back and he'd check it again. Also, becasue it did not give a code, he did not charge the service fee ($75.00?). Pretty good, and kudo's to Wichita Falls Ford - Lincoln - Mercury. And, knock on wood, since I had it checked, the ABS light has not even blinked.
The ABS sensors are located in the rear end, and both front wheel bearing assemblys. All of them are replaceable. First clean all the sensors off and see if that helps.
