Isn't the V10 one slightly larger than what we have but still smaller than the 6.0 unit? Also the 6.0 fits nicely. Does the other universal one fit as nice?
The V10 cooler fits perfectly with a couple hangers sandwiched between the intercooler and the radiator. I was told by the aformentioned deisel shop not to run full synthetic. I know nothing of this, but was told that the Ford tranny requires certain additives for friction that pure synthetic does not have. Beats me, all I know is they did great work for me and I trust them.
Amsoil synthetic ATF & Torque Drive have the right additives. Many use them with good reults. An inline filter would be a good idea whichever type of fluid you choose to use.

Those that have ran Mobil 1 Synthetic in the 4r100 have had excellent results. I run mobil 1 synthetic and a 6.0 Cooler and towing 22,000+lbs at 100*+ Ambient, tranny temp is never an issue. I feel much more comfortable with my tranny temps under 200*.!
If I remember correctly, 220* is critical mass for dextron. 175* is ideal and 210* should be the most you want to see, anything above that and you are looking at fluid compromise.
I remember seeing a chart from this site at one time. It showed the threshold of dextron/mercon. If you are running the stock cooler only, you will reach the threshold quickly - unloaded.
Now that I have had my 6.0 tranny cooler in for a few weeks, in heavy stop and go traffic in town it hovers at 140-145. It will not break 150 empty. On the interstate 125-130 is average temp. Not bad considering its still mid-90s ambient during the day.
There are some guys using the 6.0 cooler AND the Trucool, I'm curious what their temps gauges are reading.
question for you guys bout guages.....i guess im interested in egt guage, boost guage, and a transmission temp guage, for my 02 f350 7.3ps...but where can i get them and how hard are they to install? im not a wiring master, but i usually can figure stuff out if given enough time...and also how much would i spend on all 3 guages?
They are not hard at all to hook up, just time consuming. For 3 gauges and a pillar mount your probably looking at around $300. Look for sales. I went with Autometers, but DiPricol is another popular brand. They can be bought by a number of the sponsors on this site.

I bought my guages from Dieselmanor.com. The mounting kit & 3 guages (Pyro, tranny, boost) cost $300. I chose the ISSPRO guages because they matched the stock guages exactly. Dieselmanor's kit came with everything needed to install the kit, Wires, ties, connectors, etc. I would suggest paying the extra $15 for the drill/tap - unless you already have one for mounting the EGT sensor. The instructions were great with color photos. Made it easy to install, took about 5 hours or so with a beer break.... Nothing difficult - just time
