hello every body . i am new to this and this is my first post. I have a 2003 ford f-350 crew cab , long bed , 4x4 truck, 6.0 diesel. i went camping over the weeken and had to put my truck in 4 wheel drive. i took it out of four wheel drive and proceded to camp. when i went to town to get some groceries i noticed that when i turned sharp that i would here a loud clicking and thumping noise coming from front tires. i thought maybe i still had it in four wheel drive so i stopped put it in nuetral and put it in four wheel drive then took it out of four wheel drive and made sure my hubs were in the free position. That did not work so i turned the truck off then when i went too turn it back on the air was blowing out the defrost and not out of the vents.I called my dad and asked him what he thought and he said it sounds like a vaccum leak. can any body help me i would really appreciate it. i hope it is just a simple hose.

Chk behind your front wheels there is a vacum hose that connects to your front hubs via the top of the knuckle. You can also chk to see if your front hubs are unlocked by turning the front axles by hand while your there.

If they are locked in and you aren't getting vacuum, you will not be able to unlock them without restoring the vacuum.
Correct me if I'm wrong, it's a 20 second pulse to engage and a 5 second pulse to dissengage. Either way, you'll need some kind of vacuum source.
Until you track it down, just get a cheap hand held vacuum pump from one of the parts stores and use that to unlock them until you get the leak tracked down. The other option, also very easy, is just remove the hub lock and you'll be okay for a while, as long as you cover up the hub area with something. Just pull the snap ring and the hub body can be pulled out. That'll at least help with the turning until you can get it fixed right.
Also, if your vents are defaulting to defrost, then you definitely do have a vacuum leak. That is the safety default if this happens.
