I've been having some really strange issues with my batteries lately in my '99 F250 SD 7.3 - last weekend I was running a cigarette-powered cooler (5A max draw) for a couple hours during the evening, unplugging it at night. The temps outside were probably in the 40's, so this cooler definitely was not working very hard. I attempted starting the truck the next morning and both batteries were pretty much dead; the battery gauge on my dash showed < 9V! There was nothing else running off the battery, just the cooler.
I'm assuming the batteries are junk because a similar problem happened last night when installing a remote starter in the truck, it tried starting probably 3-5 times, then the batteries were toast, one with < 7V, the other with < 9V when I fired the glow plugs. Now to the question - I have a source of group 30 (31 maybe) batteries out of old diesel generators, all of which are verified working. Do you think these batteries would fit in my rig, and is my assumption correct that the current batteries are toast?
Man go ahead and spend the $$$ and get some Optima's. They are pricey, but I have not heard one bad thing about them. My batteries did the same and I got the ones Ford Dealership sells. They work fine, I am just waiting for these to crap out and Im gonna get the Optimas.
