AX's comments in another thread got me to thinking about something I had often wondered about. How far away did you have to go to find your truck?
It seems like some parts of the country have an abundance of them and other areas, hardly none.
I had to go from Home (Ga.) to Fredericksburg Tx. 992 miles.
drove out to carthage mo from chesapeake va to the inlaws saw the truck and bought it drove it to montezuma ia (wife was in a wedding of a friend) then back to chesapeake va 1202 miles out in one truck 1564 miles back home with my 1954 !!!!
I found my 48 F-3 sitting under some oak trees about a mile away from my house. I had seen it sitting there for about 4 years before I bought it. There was a 56 F-100 further up the street on the same block and I really wanted that one but he wanted $2500 for it and it was a rust bucket. It needed a hood, both front fenders, and a bed. Even though it was a 56 I figured it was only worth about $1000 (to me anyway). I ended up the the 48 F-3 because I could get it for $500 and it had a lot less rust...
I could total up the mileage that I have drove to pickup my trucks. These are round trip miles:
This doesn't even include the mileage I drive around looking for parts.
Lemon Grove, CA. About 20-25 miles from my house. My Honda Accord doesn't tow things very well, and my truck didn't run, let alone drive. Praise the lord for friends with big diesel trucks!
OK I think you win!
I had to go about 100 miles for the truck I'm building. Bought the parts truck sight unseen and the PO delivered it(his brother in law drives a wrecker) Have been many miles looking at and for parts.

I bought my 50 from my best friend. His dad drove it daily in the early 70's to work. I rode in it many times as a kid. He lived down the street from me. I actually bought 2 for $300.00 in 1989 and I had to force him to take the $$. I've bought 5 more since then for parts. I'm going to name mine Heinz 57 as it will have many parts from many trucks!
Went a couple thousand miles from the Northside of Chicago down through Iowa, MO, KS, OK, Arkansas, MO, IL, and finally found her in a back ally on the west side of Chi-town not more than 45 miles from home!
Guy had one project in the garage, and old blue out back. He'd just brought her from Tennessee, then his wife put the kabosh on two projects so I got her. She's come a long way since then (in miles, and looks).
I have not traveled as far as some for my trucks. I bought my F1 from a guy in N.C., he trailered it to the Ford Carlilse show, and I brought it back to Syracuse.
My 53 came from Scranton, Pa. about two hours away. The Panel I bought about thirty miles from home. Went out to see it , haggle, and trailer it home, probably three times minimum. My parts truck I went out to look at first to look at and was informed by my father in law that your not restoring this thing. About sixty miles from here.(He restores cars for a living) I called the guy back after I got my F1 and told him I would like it. It has a restored Flathead car motor. Can't have too many of those. I go to Hershey quite frequently for parts, which is about five hours away. I got my bias plys from Coker there a few years back. All in all I have probably traveled over a thousand miles to get the tired iron back to my house.
I enjoy looking for parts, it is a hobby!!!!!
