Does anyone know how many IR headphones the Ford Factory DVD Entertainment Center will support? I didn't see any refererence to the number of headphones it will support.
I didn't realize that the Ex allowed for IR headphones, but now that you mention it, I do have a long red IR array that is part of the overhead console. Mmmm, I think I have some IR headphones some where at the house, I'll have to dig them out and see what happens.
I didn't think they had IR headphone capaility either - no mention in the owners manual, Think the IR thingie is for the remote control for the DVD player.
If it does have an IR transmitter I don't believe there is a limit to the number of headphones right? The IR is just transmitting the signal it doesn't care how many receivers there are. I believe I'm right ... if not just shoot me down .. LOL
My early 2003 does not have wireless headphones. From what I have been able to determine, that feature started in 2004. Maybe some late 2003s had them, but every 2003 I have seen takes the wired type.
My '04 rear entertainment DVD system has two small/red tinted IR "windows" on each side of the player. I bought my X used and it didn't have the headphones with it. I ended up scoring a set of brand new IR headphones and a remote off eBay for about $60; I guess the headphones new from Ford are about $100. As long as you're on the range freq you should be able to run as many as you'd like, but they seem really range sensitive; if the "window" on the headphones doesn't have line of sight with the unit the signal starts to break up. Hope his helps,
