i was just about to buy some of this as i have heard great things baout it and the bronco is getting some rust.i then read that i have to top coat it as it is uv sensitive.
my plans where to put it over the rusted areas and that was it.....anyone ever use this and have some usefull tips ?
I've used it, and it works just like they say they do, but IF you don't put a top coat it really discolors it.
It still stops the rust, but I had silver por 15, and on a few spots I didn't put a top coat and it turned it yellowish.
No you don't have to sand off the paint, but por 15 bonds to rough, rusty surfaces really well, and it might peel up alittle on smooth surfaces.
Not it is really go stuff if used right, but they sell some rust preventative paint at any automotive supplier, and it is alot cheaper and should do what you want to do without much if any peeling or discoloring.
I plan on trying Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator, which doesn't require a topcoat and is supposed to be at least as good as POR-15. BUT the operative word is try, I don't have any first-hand experience with it and am going by what I've read.
I have used Eastwoods Rust Encapsulator quite a bit and I like it, so far, but I have not exposed the surfaces that I have painted with it to the outside elements yet. At least Eastwood claims it does not require top coating, so that is a plus, but time will tell. BTW Eastwood has its Rust encapsulator quarts on sale right now...buy one get one free ($29).
cujo8, how do you get the buy one get one free deal on the Rust Encapsulator? I went to their website but didn't see anything about it...I've kinda been hoping it might go on sale and would like to jump on that.
