Hey Guys...I have an 82 F250 with a 400ci engine. I'm trying to diagnose the throttle kicker on the carb. It has an electrical connection and a vaccuum hookup. The electrical solenoid portion of the system works fine. I know it is basicly energised whenever the engine is on to hold the curb idle setting. When the key is off, power is lost and the throttle plates close further that they would at idle to prevent dieseling. It's the vac part that I'm confused with. The vac line goes from the kicer to a solenoid valve. The valve does not allow vac unless it's energised. I'm not sure what or when this solenoid is supposed to allow vaccuum to the kicker. I followed the wires from the solenoid. They go under the dash to a small module that doesn't seem to be interconnected to anything else. There are only 4 or 5 wires going to it including the 2 for the solenoid. My chiltons manual lists it as a throttle actuator. I'm not sure if it's an emissions control, or part of the AC system maybe. Anyone know for sure what this is for? I pulled the AC off the truck and want to know if i need this part or not. Right now, as I can tell, the solenoid is never energised. Any help would be great! Thanks!
What that does is kick the throttle open a little when the a/c compressor kicks on. Not really needed now that there is no a/c, but it could be a nice thing to keep if you have a winch or jump start other vehicles often. You could wire it to a toggle switch, and kick it on when needed.
