throttle kicker

hi there ive got a 84 bronco xlt and i have recently rebuilt the carb. im pretty sure its a motorcraft 2150 2bbl. it has a throttle kicker solenoid on it but when i was putting it back together it didnt seem to line up with the throttle lever. do i need the throttle kicker? also what exaclty does it do? thanks

Usually bumps up the throttle for A/C. If you have working a/c you will want it.

I guess i would question why it does'nt line up.

I was under the impression for a time that AOD-equipped trucks needed the kicker to keep the throttle valve cable in position as the truck slowed down. (A controlled downshift in the AOD). This may or may not be true but I had it explained to me this way at one time.
