Is it possible to swap out the entire front steering component with a later model - one having ball joint and rack and pinion steering?
I am still not satisfied the way my truck handles. I had a suspension shop replace the king pins and I installed a new power steering unit and the coupler. I was wondering if I can use the whole front part of a later model truck.
I will appreciate any aftermark units I can use. I do not want to lower the truck - keep it at stock height.
Yes, I think they replaced the radius arm. If I remember right, they mentioned that the bushings looked good. Yes, I mean the rag joint when I said coupler.
By TIB are you referring to the current system I have? Yes, it does not handle very good. So, was wondering if it can be upgraded. Of course, I do not want it to cost me an arm and a leg. I have advertisement of Mustang systems - says it is from hub to hub. Can those fit into my truck and yet maintain the stock height? I was thinking that if a newer truck (maybe 1990s) system will fit, it would be cheaper (other than labor).
96-older is basically the same thing you have now.You can go withn a complete front sub-frame i.e.Mustang II (aftermarket or fabricate yourself) or a sub-frame cut from something else (Dodge Mirada,Camaro,Ltd,etc.) the cost you save in parts will be made up in labor, though.
Shoot ! did not realize 96-older is still the king pin I-beam design !
When you say sub-frame, do you mean the whole front portion of the frame will have to be cut off and the aftermarket be welded on? Sorry, I have limited knowledge on this and would appreciate some education.
96-older is still twin I-beam,but with balljoints (mid 81 was last yr. for kingpins in F-100-150's).As for the sub-frame,Yep! Cut and weld. There's alot of Co.'s that make complete kits Fat Man fabrications,Heidts,JPL,Zig's,etc. But I don't know if they have any for your yr.
