Hello, everyone. I would like some advice on what pickup truck to get. I currently have a Chevy Avalanche, but need more of a pickup truck and less of an SUV. I will be using it for work 2-3 days a week, and will be towing a trailer with 3 ATV's on it on the weekends. I do not need or want a duallie, but would like a double-cab (crew cab) truck. I would like some suggestions on what Ford truck to buy...an F150 or an F250? I am not sure if I need a diesel or not...what are some benefits? What truck should I get? I am getting a Ford because I'm not happy with GM's quality lately, and the Ford trucks seem to be very well built.
On another topic, my son is looking at trucks now. He currently has a Chevy Tahoe Z71, but needs/wants a pickup truck, and has decided on a F150. He will be lifting it, putting on custom wheels, and putting his ATV in the bed for weekly quad trips. He is nearly decided on an Extended Cab F150. Will this be a good truck for him?
the f150 will definatley be a good truck for him if all he plans on doing is hauling his atv...as for you how much do you atv's and trailer weigh...i do no towing and i have a 2006 f250 5.4l with 3.73 gears...i would probably suggest an f250 with v10 with 4.10 gears...if you want you could go diesel and it would definatley tow better with better mpg...but remeber they are getting a new diesel next year in the 08's so if you want to wait for that its your decision...if you do want a 150 definatley the 5.4 but you will not be able to get a fullsize 6ft bed with the crew cab f150...as far as mpg in the v10 it will probably be around 12 mpg and the 5.4 will get about 13...i have a 5.4 and get 13 and my dad has a v10 and gets 11-12...and diesel will probably get much better but if your only using it 2-3 times i dont see the point in paying the extra money upfront and in maintenance...hope this helps...eaither way you go ford makes a good truck
We have two F250 diesels and we couldn't be happier with both of them. They haul anything, pull anything, go anywhere and get great mileage. The '99 2WD gets 20 mpg (highway) and that's hard for any truck to beat. We will never go back to gas trucks, they just don't have what it takes.
I have a 350 cc lwb srw Lariat 6.0. Try one and for a few $ more you'll be saying why was I looking at a 250? It sits higher, has more capacity and rides the same. The diesel is better for pulling, has longevity, more power and better resale. Better fuel mileage is offset by higher maintenance costs. You have to adjust to driving a diesel with a brief warm up, cool down and using a fuel additive to keep it happy. But all is forgiven when you press on the go pedal. You really have to drive the v10 vs the diesel yourself. As for you son’s 150, personally I never liked lifted vehicles. Gas mileage goes down, handling and braking get worse. I’d prefer to get a taller stock one like say a 350. Get the snowplow package and it’s even higher in the front. Actually the 150 would be more economical. It’s easier to maneuver, better for the inexperienced and it’s a great truck, but you can never have too much truck.

seriousley if you donnt need the 350 you dont need it...some say that properley eqquiped the 250 will out tow the 350...also sits higher??? as far as that goes that 350 supercab 4x4 sits a whomping .02 an inch higher WOW!!!! i cant believe it that huge!!! im pretty sure the insurance and plates are more expensive on a 350 also...so what im trying to say is if you dont need it you dont need it...get what you need!!!
also one thing ive came across around here is that alot of people on here will knock gas engines if they have a diesel,...just get use to it...buy what you want and what you need...if you want a f250 crew cab with the 5.4 im sure itll tow you quads also but the v10 will do better...but if your not going to use it much i would go v10 rather than diesel
Yeah I don't really agree that the F350 sits higher than a 250. Regarding the diesel, yeah the diesel owners will almost always say the diesel is best. That's because once you own one and see what they can do and what the mileage is then you're sold. I was. I have had a few gas powered trucks, Fords, Chevy's and gasp, even a Dodge. Not a one of them did the things that my 7.3s do for me on a daily basis. But, like you said, it depends on what you need and what you want. Pulling ATVs on a trailer should be no problem for the V10 but there's also the the saying that "you can never have too much truck". I would rather have more than I need then not enough.
And oh, my insurance for my F250 4x4 is 7 bucks more a month than my 1/2 ton Dodge gasser was. Just sayin.....
i just wasnt sure because it cost my dad alot more but i think its becasue its considered a commercial vehicle because its under the business and the plates where 135 bucks and mine where about 70 bucks cheaper but i dont know the reson...he has a 350 dually

just me i deliver countertops and i just like the 8ft bed and larger truck but i just cant stand the maintenence on the diesel and i couldnt imagine having one when i would never use it...and my slogan has always been and always will be suckin gas and haulin...well you know the rest!
Yeah, commercial plates are a lot higher here in Texas too. There is a way around that here though and that is to apply for a farm plate. They are less than a private plate even. Don't get caught though.
texas huh...well im from ohio and all i know not only are the plates more expensive but the college footall teams are better too...haha sorry i had to...sorry for the off topic post
Ah the gas versus diesel discussion. I'll stay out. Go F250 for what you are doing. Crew cab is a lot larger than the crew cab of an F150. As for motor V10 or PSD. I'll stay out of the V10-PSD Argument but I will say the 5.4 is a pice of----------- for towing... Fill in the blank.... The insurance and plate thing looks like it varies from state to state. I've had 4 different SD's in the past 10 years and the insurance has been pretty consistent, based up value of the vehicle.

here we go again another 5.4 basher...nothing new...the 5.4 is what it is an small bloakc v8...ive seen people tow alot with it...i might be able to say the 6.0 is a piece of ------ fill in the blank because of all the horror stories...i do no towing so i dont need a 6.0...why would i want it if its going to cost me to much in maintinece and i have to woorry about it breaking on me all the time when i would never use it...do you think im the only one who DOESNT need a diesel...but i would never call it a piece of ----- fill in the blank!!!
