After having grown up driving my dad's F-150s, finally got to get one of my own. I have a 2005 (bought new this summer) FX4 SuperCab and I love it...it was a long time coming, but worth it.
I had a concern about the feel of the brake pedal, however. The pedal travels considerably when applying the brakes, but regains a lot of feel if you give them a second pump. Took it to the dealer, they had three different techs drive it and they said the brakes feel just like any other 04-50 they've driven.
Telly,
I have an 05 Scab FX4 too and I have noticed that same problem with my truck. I also took it to the dealer and they told me that it was normal. I drove a 2006 Lariat and the brake had alot more resistance when I pushed it down. So I do not know what to do about it.
Thanks for the info on the TSB. I have had to ocasionally stand on the brakes to get my truck to stop in city driving. Has anyone upgraded to stainless steel brake lines? I wonder if that would make the pedal feel any more firm? I saw Goodridge has a set for about $225.
I hope that you get it fixed. My dads 04 and my 06 has great pedal feel. Thats one of the things that I find about fords, the pedal is high and grabs high. The company 03 silverado pedal felt like mush. The brakes would grab, but it seemed like it was going to the floor.
I too have had this problem. I have a 2005 F-150 that I have put 20,00mi on. I noticed since new that the brake travel would increase over time. I can fix it by pressing really hard\ on the brake with the truck stopped. Then the pedal stays up for a couple of weeks. It never gets too bad and it seems to develop no more than a few inches of brake travel before it fixes itself in normal driving. It seems like it has something to do with the self-adjuster? Usually when I am at the dealer the brakes are within normal range so, they have not looked at it yet.
