I had to get another. Traded in the 04 FX4 Screw for a 06 XLT Screw with the 6.5 foot bed. First impression--the 06 runs as good as my 04 did with the Edge tuner at level 3. I can't believe the difference. I must have had one of the dog 04s. Now, with the Edge in the 06 on level 3, the truck is amazing. Totally different.
Now, I just have to get it leveled, get airbags under the rear again and a few other mods. I'll get pictures up soon.
BTW-does anyone have any advice for speaker upgrades? I didn't want the audiophile again (wanted the storage under the rear seat). The basic stereo is pretty weak. Need some good speakers in the doors and maybe an amp.
www.Memphis.com Great speakers. You won't find these at Best Buy, Circuit City or Crutchfield. Good car stereo shops carry them.
Congrates on the new truck.

I never really did take a good look at the exhaust on my 04. I just get the impression that Ford opened up the exhaust on the 06's. Like you I feel this 06 runs about like the 04 did with the tuner (although it still has the drive by wire hesitation). The other difference is my 06 has 3.73 gears, while the 04 had 3.55's. How about yours? The other very real possibility is that by sounding louder the 06's may simply seem faster.
The update is out for my Predator tuner, but I left it 700 miles away. My wife will bring it when she comes to visit at Thanksgiving (that's in early October here in Canada). Can't wait to see how it runs with the tuner.
BTW what made you opt for the XLT trim this time?

Congrats on the new truck, I will be getting my 06 supercrew in the next couple days. Traded in my 04 supercab, and I'm a little worried that it will not be as good as my 04, glad to here your happy!!

I went with the XLT this time because I did the 72 month 0 interest purchase instead of the lease. The XLT made it a little more affordable, which kept the payment about the same as the lease. I had to give up a few options, like the power rear window and moon roof, but I got the 6.5 foot bed. That's what I really wanted.
Both trucks had/have the 3.73 LS rear end. The exhaust note is a little different, like you say. Throttle response is better on the 06, but, like you say, still has a little of the drive-by-wire hesitation.
For some reason, the fuel gauge on the 06 reads differently. The 04 would get 100 miles per quarter tank for the first three quarters, then go from a quarter full to empty in 50 miles. The 06 goes about 80 miles per quarter tank. The low fuel light comes on with at least four gallons remaining. The math and the Edge say my mpg is higher on the 06 than the 04 (getting about 14.5 in the city--got 13 in the 04), but it seems like I'm burning through the tank faster now.

There are two different gas tanks available on the long box Screw. Not sure of the US gallons but they are 102 litres and 135 litres. On my first fill up with the salesman I asked him about tank size. He grabbed the manual out of the glovebox and had just finished telling me that the tank held 102 litres. Then he looked over his shoulder at the pump which read about 127 litres and said,"oh I guess you have the big tank".
My 04 Scab also had the optional big tank and I once ran it until the engine started to miss (with a gas can in the back). It ran out at just under 1000km which is right at 625 miles. I filled it as full as I could and it actually held 145 litres.
The other thing that I noticed is that the 06 engine seems to have "loosened up" much more quickly than the 04 did.
Unlike you I am still riding the lease cycle. I am currently paying through the nose for putting way too many miles on my 04 in too short a time. I'm hoping that I have that sorted out with this truck (ie. higher mileage lease and extended warranty) as like you I would like to purchase my next vehicle.
Just posted a bunch of new pics in my gallery if you want to take a look.
