LEDs

I want to replace our halogen bulbs that light up our rear license plates. I seen Lexus GS have LEDs and they look really classy. Do you guys know if there is a replacement bulb for those two bulbs??

Did you look on e-bay?

I am looking for an led that has one set amber for turn and one set clear for back-up lights. A little rewireing and you get amber turn lights in the rear and keep the back-up light too.

I found them...I believe they are 921 bulbs. I am referring to the small lights that shine the license plate...Have you any idea how to remove those bulbs?

the housing just pop off, but for that location, an LED will probalby not throw as much light as the stock incandescent bulb. LEDs are directional, and on a bulb that small, it will shine a small dot of light on the license plate, if you can get it to shine on the plate. If anything, get a superwhite incandescent bulb to get the brighter white light you are looking for

thanks Bob for your reply. I really want that look that the Lexus GS has as far as plate lighting goes. I wonder how they make it work

I just ordered a pair of 921 LEDs. Superlumination.com sells two kinds of 921 LEDS...one set, which is the one i got, has the latest super high flux low profile leds and they are designed create large uniform field of bright light. They do sell a cheper set of 921 LEDS that shine like the "normal leds"; like a flashlight-straight beam. Ill keep you guys posted once I get it.

But as far as the bulb popping out, they just pop out? Is there a special way to remove them?

Is... Check your PMs ...

Edit: you'll have to do some "grafting" to make this idea work...

thanks for the link

But I just ordered from Superlumination for the second time around. I originally got my LED turn signals and resistors from them.

Radiantz makes an LED illuminated plate frame.

Check out Custom Dynamics too, tons of stuff for bikes, but some (bulbs, etc.) carries over to trucks.

LED plate frame would look cheezy IMO. I would like to keep it classy. Ill post pics once I get this item. Hopefully by the end of next week I will have it. I looked under the truck and it looks pretty simple to unhook the bulb out of the socket.

I just got them in the mail and tried fitting them. They are bright as hell, but they are too long. Seems as the 921 and 904 bulbs have the same application, but the bulb that is in the OEM socket are 904 (much smaller). So long story short, they are too big by couple of MM. Oh well, I guess I will be giving them away to a friend who can use them for reverse lights in his Toyota Scion.
