I am planning on changing the lube in the Transaxle of my 2005 Escape with the 2.3L Duratech engine and 5 speed manual transaxle. I am having a hard time finding a lube that meets the Ford spec"WSS-M2C203-A1" I also would like to use a synthetic lube. Ford lists the part number as "F32Z-19C547–MA" GL4 gear lube in the owners manulal.
I did see that Amsoil makes a product called MTG that is for this purpose, how do I know if it meets Ford spec? I a better lube available that does not cost over $10.00 a quart?
I used Royal Purple's Synchromax in my Ranger's 5spd. I would recommend any MTL synthetic in manuals where mercon is required. Which I would be surprised if that's not what the tranny requires, but knowing Ford never know.
well the spec for the trans axle is just plain mercon ATF. never use the GL4 in that unit , you must be reading it wrong as the GL4 is for the rear differential and not for the transmission.

The owners manual clearly states 75w90 GL4 gear lube for the tranaxle, I listed the Ford part # and Spec in the first post. Where Mercon is called for the spec only states "Mercon"

Turns out the Ford lube is not synthetic and costs about $12.00 a quart. I bought the Amsoil synthetic GL4 for $9.85 a quart from a local shop. I still have to do the change though and am wondering if any one knows if there is a drain plug, or am I stuck sucking the old stuff out?
