A friend of mine here in the UK has recently bought a 95 F350 powerstroke v8 diesel....he wants to do a service etc and is somewhat concerned by what the previous owner said about the 'special' oil..
What do you's recommend..?..will a normal say 15/50 diesel oil do...or does he need semi/full synthetic....
15W 40 wt. diesel oil (Chevron Delo, Shell Rotella, etc.) for your friend's 7.3 diesel. You might want to post your questions for him in the 7.3 '94.5 - '97 forum to better target folks with the same motors...
AMSOIL only, 15/40 Heavy Duty, just my .02 cent.
switching to amsoil lowered my rpms down 400 rpms. at 45 mph and gained
some pep. due to injection pressure runs on oil pressure, running amsoil with the amsoil filter requires less oil changes per my supplier. my .02 cents again.

its an AmSoil thing.
i have heard that claim numerous times from AmSoil dealers:
"if you use our oil and filters, you will get better fuel mileage because the engine will run at lower rpm's due to the superior lubricating abilities of our synthetic oils"..

dello what, I am currently working on becoming an AmsOil rep. and well I run it in both my 4 wheelers, generator and truck, and am selling my friends on it every day. and your using an oil that you purchased for 8 bucks a gallon, hummmmm, do you really like your diesel, I know, I know, you guys have probably never used AmsOil, so dont knock it, but truth be told, I am a motor head, and watch every thing very carefully, and if I say, my oil dropped my rpms 400, thats what i saw, (versus the factory crap they use), yes indeed it does cost more, but so does the top-o-d-line intake, the hottest chip or programmer and the best exhaust, so tell me again, why your running thousands of dollars in aftermarket high performace parts, but using a low performace oil from wal-mart...............sorry if i sound harsh, but that is just plain wrong, and oh, I can get you 14 qts of AmsOil 15/40 HD and filter for about $120.00....

oil can't lower your revolution's. Dello 400 15/40 and rottela t 15/40 are very good oil's most people on this site use them for there powerstroke's. They are not wall mart brand they are just sold there. Most people know that. I have 260,000 on nothing but dello and have seen way more than that by many. I also have one with 120,000.

Ok, I'm no mechanic, but I have torn down and rebuilt several engines and I think I have a pretty good understanding of how they work. Can you explain to me the mechanics/physics of how motor oil can lower engine rpm's at a given speed?
yea, i know its not walmart brand, though sold there, you see anything high performance ever come out of wal-mart, i here lots of guys talking about it, but you cannot convince me that your getting quality at $2 a quart, sorry, never see it,
also, your probably changing your oil every 3K or so, AmsOil 2 to 3 times that long, even the filter is good for 25000 miles, and when your done with the oil, send a tube back to your local dealer and see what precentage of oil is still good,
and then take some dello after the same amount of miles and compare, I think you may change your mind after that.........also, revs will lower due to type of oil, the less your motor has to work to achieve the same speed lowers your rpms,

I drained my last fill of Delo at 10,152 miles, the used oil analysis on it came back with wear metals lower than the universal average at 5,200 miles, viscosity was right were it should be. No fancy Amsoil bypass filters, just a motorcraft 1995.
So what exactly does Amsoil have to offer me over Delo? (other than a thinner wallet)
your delo numbers sound good for a cheap oil, but I guarantee AmsOil will be better hands down.
read a little, http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/ame.aspx
i never said you had to like it, its all about high performance,
unfortunatly, high performance cost money
You sound pretty certain, so I'll make you an offer to prove your guarantee. You send me the 15 quarts of Amsoil, I'll run it for 10,000 miles, and if the UOA comes back better than my last one on Delo, I'll pay you for the oil. Deal or no deal?
Also, I'm still waiting on a mechanical explaination of how motor oil can lower engine RPM at a given speed. Unless the torque converter or clutch are slipping, seems impossible to me.
