I took my truck to my local mechanic to have it checked due to the service engine light coming on. He hooked it up to his diagnostic machine and it came back with a cam sensor fault code. Unfortunately, I didn't write down the code. I'm concerned basically because I'm getting conflicting answers to my problem. I explained my situation to my cousin who owns a auto repair facility in LA and he suggested that I change the fuel filter prior to replacing the cam sensor. My symtoms are as follows.
The check engine light stays on
After the truck runs for awhile it starts to hesitate on accelleration
It misses after is warms up as well.
I was towing a small car yesterday and when attempting to ascend uphill, it misses pretty bad.
The reason I'm questioning the first diagnostic test is due to a recent experience where the check engine light came on and returned a O2 sensor fault and come to find out that there was a small hose leaking that was connected to the intake. So I just want to be sure.
What happened with that, I have a 02 f150 5.4 liter and it hesitates as well as jerks. Told it was cam shaft sensor, replaced 3 times and it last about a week and does it again help
Do you know the code that was recieved by whoever diagnosed it as needing the sensor? That would help us.
The most common causes of hesitating and jerking on a 5.4 is bad spark plugs or COPs (Coil On Plug).
Thanks for the welcome. I do not know the code as I never have asked. I will get that for you, for I have been trying to fix this problem for a long time. What happened is i took my truck to get new plugs, at the ford dealership. They wanted almost 500 dollars to replace the plugs and boots. I took it to a local mechanic and he did it for 200. Ever sense then my truck has been totaly running like crap. I took it to ford dealership, they kept it for 2 weeks and replaced the cam shaft sensor 3 times at 160$ a pop. Told me the code was saying cam shaft sensor, and they did not know what else to do, if i had good insurance to burn it! You can assume how I felt. They replaced the fuel filter nothing stoped, they replaced the o2 sensor nothing stoped. Then they told me it is got to be the fuel pump 200 more dollars, guess what nothing stoped. It is jerking and lying down really bad thought it might be a transmission, took it to specialist he keep it for 2 days broke it down and said nothing was wrong with the transmission. So I took it back and they said it could be the cruise controll that was recalled replaced that and nothing changed. I will try to get the code today and thank you fro all of your help for I am burning money and still not fixed!
