Just wondering how does mechanics know if the engine is running optimum to its full potential? Especially older engines, Say when a mechanic does a full tune up does some mechanics use a expensive machine that they can go by that they can tell the engine is running to its full potential?
I know you just feel your engine is running good just by the feel of it and the mpg you are using but sometimes that is just not good enough, only if you had a DYNO in your garage you could know for sure its running to its full potential and or your mods did some good.
I wish car manufactures could put something in a dash telling you that your engine is running at 100%, air filter gets plugged or a senor is getting weak and your engine is running at 80%.
Dodge as them too, pop the hood, and a guage tells you how restricted the airflow is. I also installed a meter the works similarly on the fuel filter. also some of todays modern Semi trucks, have a fully integated computer system that can accuratly tell you what sysems are doing what. you could probably rig a computer system similar to that on your truck, but it really isn't practiccal for a consumer. it just helps the semis stay on the road longer.
