Cutty shark is bar scotch, and is rotgut junk so comparing it to any of the better scotchs is almost insulting. Glenlivet IS the scotch, and if you can afford it, the 18yr old stuff is the only way to go. If you choose any other brand, make sure it's single malt min 12 yr old, preferable is 18.
for vodka, If you can find a true imported vodka that is still written in Russian then that would be the one to buy, I have had armadale vodka but it's not a true russian vodka (actually made in scotland) but it's pretty good stuff.
Oh I don't know about that, I have been a scotch drinker for a long time. Can't stand most blended whiskey or blended scotch if it isn't single malt it's bar scotch in my book, I have tried all the best, and some that can't even be bought in the US, and of the ones that you can get in the US I have made my preference known.
At my birthday party last night, I had four bottles on the table: Patron Silver for shots, and for margaritas we had Cazadores anejo, Sauza Hornitos, and Don Julio. I also received two more bottles for gifts: Herradura Reposado, and another Patron Silver. (I just love my friends ; they know me so well !)
I have to say that my favorite tequila is the Patron Anejo, though.
That being said, if you really want to make a statement with a gift bottle, try Porfidio. It has a little cactus inside the handblown glass bottle, and the tequila is very smooth. But, it'll set you back $100-$130. That is, unless you want to part with $700 for the bottle with 24K gold flakes in the liquor!
One Vintage is called WMD....Weapons of Mass Destruction. The 10 is good, the 15 real good, 17 year old is even better. There is a 40 y/o on the web site about $2500!!!!
Accordinng to Wikpedia "The distillery is producing 12 barrels of 184-proof whisky"
I buy Hard Liquor for the different reasons..one for mixing liquor ..is the concoctions that can be derived from them....and for the design of the bottle.
By that I mean... Harvey Wall Bangers, Whisky Sour,a variety of Margarita's,
with Sipping Hard Liquors ...for the unique taste they have on their own.
Not BY whether they will give a hangover or BY how drunk they make me as ...I DON'T ever get drunk.
