I have to sell my f-150 since i bought a 91 mustang and now i need a car to hold me over for the winter. Rangers seem to fit the bill, cheap, and they're fords. im looking to stay under $800. Can someone tell me what years i should consider? i plan to get a v6 and manual with 4x4.
Since you want 4X4 for $800, you really aren't going to have much choice in the model, other than it's going to be an older one. $800 4X4's are a rarity around here in the fall and when they do show up they are usually trashed.
Where are you from? Consider a 2WD and you may be able to find a decent truck for $800. Personally, I like '83-'88 models because they are easier to work on for me, and the styling is very appealing to me.
Should fit the bill nicely, but first things first, you need to go take a look at it. How's the engine sound, does it run good, does the check engine light work, does the transmission seem to shift good, does it leak any, does the 4WD work properly, amongst many other things I've forgotten.
For $800 , you'll will need to scour the internet car market and you may find something worth looking at in more detail. It appears money is the issue here, and Rangers hold value because they are a good truck regardless of the year.
you can check the 4x4 just by takeing it on some gravel. that ranger your posted that you are looking at, i think thats probly the best deal your going to find and its not that bad a deal just make sure the engine sounds good and that the trans shifts nicely and make sure it rides good, cuz if there is anything you can bring up to chew him down is well worth it.
