Hood movement

I have noticed on a few other mid-60s Fords, and also mine, that the hood tend to slide up so it is not flush with the rest of the body of the truck.

Is this from the vibration of the truck or just not being shimmed right? I bought my truck like this and wanted to fix it before I get it painted.

I noticed that the top underneath support is a little loose...could this cause the hood to ride up out of alignment?

I look forward to your suggestion.

Cheers, Brian

On my '66, the rear edge of the hood is slightly higher than the cowl. It looks to be a hood hinge problem, as there are no shims on the hood. The front rubber hood supports are not adjutsable. Be VERY CAUTIOUS on removing the hood hinge-to-cowl bolts! There are blind nuts on the back side in the cowl that are lightly tack welded on and they seem to break loose almost instantly if the bolts are loosened. If the hinge seems loose where it attaches to the body, this is a sign someone tried to loosen the bolts and stopped right away when they seemed to "spin" but not loosen. I cut open the cowl on a '66 parts truck to look at this setup, these blind nots are not accessible from up thru the inner vents or anywhere else. The only solution is to have a welding shop cut open the cowl, reweld new blind nuts, and close 'er up. What a mess!

This kind of misalignment can also be due to the front cab mounts rusting out and allowing the front of the cab to "sag" a bit and making it seem that the hood has moved when it is the cab. I would look at your front cab mounts to verify if they are badly rusted out or not. That would be a bit more than just an adjustment to fix that!
Good luck

Here's a simple test. Open the hood and remove both hinge springs. Close the hood. If it sits all the way down, the hinges are bad. If it still sits up higher than the cowl, the front cab mounts OR the core support mounts are bad.
I replaced mine with a set from a 66 F350. If any body else does this, retain the lower bolts from the donor as the threads were different on the 66 than the 64.
