I'm just now starting to dig into my "check engine" joy and have found with the help of a OBDII module that I have the P0755 shift solenoid b malfunction. Mine is a '97 EB Expedition with 137k and has been driving fine. I haven't noticed any skipping in the shift points and I pull a ski boat so I would think that I would definitely notice if I was jumping from 1st to 3rd coming onto the highway... My check engine light has been going on and off so I haven't worried about it too much.
Now that summer is almost here and we'll be doing more boating, camping, etc. (plus the tags are about due) it's time I get it fixed. Can those of you who already replaced the solenoid provide some details as to what you did, pitfalls to avoid, etc? Much appreciated!

I was going to say...my 99 has the E code for the E40D as well. My issue is that my Exped doesn't like real steap hills in a turn...read: lots of load. The tires just stop spinning, and the torque converter I believe is to blame here. When I pull into 2nd or 1st, up the hill it goes.

What needs to happen here? Do I need a torque converter? Or does it just need a good servicing and maybe a shift kit? Or at least the line pressure adjusted some?

Thanks man!

Sam

1999 Expedition, 5.4L 4x4 XLT...with I guess the E40D/4R100. Can't really climb under there to see, as there is 4" of ice and snow on the ground. LOL

Finally broke down and ordered a new shift solenoid - $155 on-line compared to $250 locally. Dropping the pan was a bit messy as the E40 does not have a drain plug.

The shift solenoid is located more on the passenger side for those who are wondering. About the same dimensions as the filter. Torx head bolts and one nut and a little prying to get it unplugged and it comes out. I was going to take some pictures to post but it was just too messy.

Add $40 for a new filter and ATF. Got mine all buttoned together topped off with fluid and now unfortunately my problems appear to be worse!!!

The check engine light disappeared for a short time then came right back along with the flashing OD light. When attempting to drive it acts like a full manual valve body. Put it in Drive and it tries to start out in Drive (3rd)), in 2 it tries to start out in 2. And I don't think I have Low anymore... Rechecked the fluid several times. Disconnected and reconnected the battery to "reset" the computer and still no luck.

I am going to borrow my neighbor's OBD reader again to see what it's telling me tomorrow. Depending on the outcome I may be making an appt. with the repair shop and shelling out another several hundred to get this thing back on the road.

Disgusted so far...
