Anyone have an opinion as to the value of the aftermarket throttle body spacers for the 5.4 liter engine? I am guessing this would only be useful if an aftermarket air induction system is also added to improve air flow and, in a perfect world, a pair of headers.
From what I heard they are not a good upgrade. From many accounts on this site, TB spacers do not provide any gains and do not add MPG. I decided to stay away even after installing a CAI(which did not provide any increases either).
IMHO, you would probably be better off doing a tune up if you haven't done so already. Spending the money on some coil boots + spark plugs and perhaps cleaning out your throttle body/fuel system will cost about the same(if you do the work yourself) and i am sure that you will notice a change. How many miles on your truck?
They are junk. I installed an Airaid TBS (along with a K&N FIPK) and all it got me was a nice high-pitched whistle and no real performance gain. Even the FIPK didn't produce any real performance gain. I slapped back on all of the stock intake stuff and put on a Flowmaster exhaust system so at least I sound mean.
The only way to really get an Expy to perform better is a Supercharger but who wants plop down $2K for that? Not me.
I will enjoy what I have and keep it as nice as possible for as long as possible.
Thanks for the warning. I had a feeling it made no great sense. Forgot to add that I drive between 7,800 and 11,300 feet. A supercharger would be a great addition.
A well thought out supercharger system is a great upgrade. If you are headed that direction think about what kind of things put on for upgrades and if they will still be used if you go to a supercharger.
