About the only problem I have left to fix on my truck is a constant power drain on my battery. At first I was having trouble tracking it down, but when fixing my brake lights and turn signals I put my hand on the pink wire near the ignition and it was very warm when truck is shut off. When I disconect, the drain on the battery goes away. Does anyone know what this wire is for and if there is a typical reason for the drain??

It is a resister wire that drops the voltage to the coil(at least that is my understanding).I eliminated it in mine when I changed over to electronic ignition.I am also curious what is causing the drain,I would imagine that whatever that wire is going to may be part of the problem.It may also be the wire itself.

Voltage regulator is sticking closed..get a new one $12.00 or tearinto the old one and look the points should be touching at all times if its jacked.. otherwise it will be open when off.
thanks guys....from what I read in previous posts here, I already suspected the voltage regulator and replaced it. It didn't solve the drain. So I guess I'm looking at a new ign switch and/or tracing the wire with a test light. It may be the wire as well, because occasionally there is no drain.
Not an authority on auto electrical circuits by no means, obviously not good if the pink wire is warm when ign. is in the off position. If ign. switch is not faulty, and in the off position, the next component in the circuit would seem to me to be the starter relay. May try listening for clicking sound when ign. is turned to the start position, or disconnect wires to relay and check to make sure there is no continuity between the 'I' side and 'S' side of relay(the 2 small post) on the relay. Thought would add my $.02 and it's about all it's worth.
