a few questions
hi guys
i have a few questions
99 ranger 4wd 4.0 auto
1. whats the rattling noise coming from around the oil filter, sounds like
maybe a check vavle or something. like a marble in a can.
2.abs light is on and its the rear wheel speed sensor, can that affect the
transmission.
3.and last but not least the damn thing is pinging, replaced fuel filter, ran codes
and replaced 02 sensor. but still pinging and noticed the idle air bypass
humming today

WELCOME TO FTE mstg_ray. im glad you chose the best site on the net for ford trucks, see you around the boards!
im not sure on the first one. on the speed sensor, have you driven in any mud? when mine did that the sensor had mud in it and i cleaned it up and put it back on and it worked. as for the pinging, try a higher octane gas.

Yes the VSS (vehicle speed sensor) on the rear diff can effect the tranny! It's obviously noticeable if it does, hard, poor, or no shifts, etc.
What do you mean "still pinging and noticed the idle air bypass"? Oh...just saw the humming part...idiot me. Mine doesn't hum I know that. Does it idle properly? Is the pinging there at all RPMS and under load, not under load, etc? I.E. constant?
The rattling I have no idea on, hopefully someone else will. Possibly somethign in the exhaust manifold? One of the bolts broken?
