i could have been worse i suppose. i have seen tow hooks, bumpers, and reese hitches all get torn away from the frame by a chain. and if you have have 2 hooks on the front dont hook through both at the same time.. seen a cheby have its frame pulled together from that.

Talking

I got a call from my insurance company yesterday and without even getting an estimate they told me to go ahead and have it fixed and send them the bill! :-)

And the best part is that I have a $0 deductible on my comprehensive plan :-)

If you have to use a chain for pulling always throw a blanket or duct tape a floor mat over the middle it so it won't slingshot in either direction.
The same applies to slings or ropes but is not nearly as important for chains.

Good advise bronco, a lot of people have hurt that way. Trucks can be fixed, people not so easy.

Well, my truck went to the shop today and they are going to replace the hitch, tail light and back driver's side FX4 Level II decal along with fixing and painting all the dents and chips in the bed and tailgate. Should have it back Friday but until then I am stuck driving my dad's 1991 S10 4cyl. 2wd auto. Far cry from the danger ranger LOL.

Always use a strap and never use rope unless it is kevlar. Rope stretches to much and the recoil from them parting (Navy word for break) will slice through a human and through metal. Kevlar doesn't stretch, and when a rope breaks it can be moving so fast that it can pass through anything. Kind of like the piece of straw and hurricane story. If you get anything moving fast enough it can kill. I have been in the Navy for over 18 years now and I have first knowledge of lines breaking. Always ugly!! Hopefully this won't cost you much and hopefully the friend is nice enough to pay for it all.
