This comes straight from my 65 owners manual so it is Fords numbers. Someone else may have differant information.

bore = 4.00
Stroke = 3.98
Taxable (SAE) horse power = 38.4 ????
Brake horse power = 170 at 3600 rpm
Foot pounds = 283 at 2400 rpm
Compression ratio = 8.4:1
Compression pressure = 150 - 200 psi

Hope this helps.

That 170 horsepower back in 1965 was SAE Gross horsepower. And the 1990s 300 CID/4.9 liter EFI horsepower of 145/150 is SAE Net horsepower.

I don't own a 1965 300 CID--but that gross HP of 170 translates to about 135 SAE Net modern horsepower. Later--in the 1970s/1980s--that 300 six was making 115/120 SAE Net horsepower--with the one barrel carburetor and catalyic converter and EGR and other emission controls.

just piggy backing on this thread, I'm looking for the same thing for the 292 with a ford-o-matic trans H.P. and Torque 1964 f100.

Staying low for now

The 1963 292 V8 F100 engine was rated at 160 gross SAE horsepower. And the same engine was rated at 139 Net horsepower--per the rating plate on the inside of the glove box. I suspect that the old Net horsepower is the same or close to the new SAE NET horsepower.

I think that the 1964 ratings would be the same.
