I've got an 86 ford truck with the 300 inline 6 cylinder. A 4 speed manual trans.
The other day I think i rode the clutch to long, trying to take off in 2nd gear across a busy road (1st is a granny and I couldn't get enough speed) What I have noticed since then is: 1st gear is fine, 2nd gear slips when the truck is cold, 3rd & 4th the same thing. After the truck warms up,1st,2nd,3rd gear do fine, but 4th gear seams to want to slip just for a second after I take my foot off the clutch while going down the road. And also if I'm going down the road and put my foot into the gas while in 4th gear the engine will rev up just for a second and then go back to normal operation.
Did I burn up the clutch? Everything that I can see looks good. The clutch pedal is the same as it has always been, nothing has changed. Except for the problem with the slipping gear(s). I know someone has an answer for me,thanks in advance.
Yes you might want to not take any trips, your clutch sounds to be all done. That’s what happened to me driving just fine one day then I took of really quick at a stop when I could hear the engine revving up really high in 2. Trying to baby it home didn’t work either, that hill seemed so steep for 4th gear-nope had to get towed! You can have the clutch done yourself in a weekend if you have all the parts and tools. The local repair shops quoted me 1,800.00 + to get mine fixed. All I paid was $150.00 + lots of thank you’s to my dad. Here is what your clutch might look like-My 86’s
