Just got a 1964 223c.i. three speed. On the highway anything over 45 m.p.h the r.p.m's are really up there. Granny gear I guess. What is the best way to gear it up, transmission or rear end. I don't need the low speed torque.
Fred, If you have a 1/2 ton you will have a 9" rear, that will be easy to change, and you could go to a 3.25 thak will come from a V8 with st dr. You can run it on to 65 ok, it just sounds bad.

In the cool still quiet of night, you can hear chevies rusting away.
Fred,
I have a 61 F-100 with a 223cid and a 4spd. I put 3.25's in and it runs about 3000 rpms at 65mph. It does sound alot better than it did before, but I decided to scrap the 223/4spd and I went and bought a 302 and an automatic tranny. which I hope to have swaped out by spring.
