A/C Compressor cracked
I found oil leaking under my York compressor in my 79 F-150 460 ci. Didn't react until my A/C stopped cooling. I suspect that a long bolt cracked the bottle of the hloe in the compressor and the oil and freon leaked out over time. My question is there too much pressure at that point to maybe try to fill the bolt hole with an epoxy enough to seal it and recharge the system with adding some oil to make up the different. Any comments?

i do not think you will get a repair to hold. remember that the a/c system can see 350 psi on a hot day. i would go to a wreaking yard and buy a used one. to test the comp. simply turn the clutch center and hold your thumb over the inlet and then the outlet. the inlet will suck your thumb in and the outlet will puck your thumb away. this tests the valves and rings, also while turning feel for any roughness in the bearings. if that all checks out all you need is a seal kit(about 40 dollars in canada) and your good to go. these comp. have been around for years and are still being built so finding one in not hard. you can also buy new ones from ag or big truck dealerships if you want.
