I have a 1977 F250 with what appears to be dealer added in A/C. The vents come out of the dash panel but there are separate controls for the A/C from the "High Output Heater" controls.
This system has long since stopped working. What are my options to get it back alive again? I assume that I need to replace the compressor as the original York compressor looks to be leaking.
Can I simply replace the compressor with a Sanden and re-charge with R234A?
I would take it to a shop that you trust, and have it checked out before spending the money for a compressor as they are not cheap. Secondly, if it sat for a long time the system will have to be flushed and pumped down as r12 and r134 are not compatable.Their is however a company called autofrost that makes a compatable refridgerant called r406,it is non flammable and can be put in an old r12 system. I is a good replacement for r12 as I have used it quite a bit on older vehicles. Good luck Mush
