It is a holley i dont know what cfm it is though. The plugs all checked out fine. I still need to get vacuum lines and a gauge but im going to tennessee for the weekend and i dont know if i can do it before then.
I'd say you have a timing issue or most likely you have a couple plug wires switched around, don't laugh, it happens. 13726485 is the firing order on these motors. The factory timing on these is 10 degrees BTDC, make a chalk or white crayon mark on the harmonic balancer. I would say that with that cam, you will probably need to be at 8 or even 6 BTDC. That grind sounds like a Comp 268H, I have a 265DEH and it needs to be at 8 degrees BTDC. Just a couple degrees can make a huge difference. Also, just as precautionary, check your oil for a chocolate milk appearance and your radiator for any kind oil or the same chocolate milk scum.
First of all id like to say Im a new member and Hi everyone.
Ok now with the problem. I just got my license a few months ago and my Grandpa gave me a beautiful Short wheel base 1979 Ford F-100 for fixing the motor in it...... well for getting it running. Anyway i swaped out the old 2-barrel carb to a 4-barrel. And i put an oversized cam in it. Now it runs like crap. At first i figured it was the timing, but i checked the timing on it and it said 6 degrees BTDC and it was dead on it. It hesitates when you give it gas. And when you start it in the morning it backfires like crazy and wont pull itself till it warms up. I dont know much about these trucks but im trying to learn. Anyone got any suggestions on getting her to run right? Oh its a 351m by the way.
Try the checking EGR valve ... you wouldn't beleive how important it is to the idle operation and off idle performance.
