I'VE RECENTLY STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY F250 7.3L POWERSTROKE JUST GOING DEAD WHILE DRIVING. IT HAPPENS RANDOMLY WITH NO WARNING. OIL LEVEL & PRESSURE IS GOOD, NEW FUEL FILTER INSTALLED RECENTLY (DID IT ONCE BEFORE NEW FILTER WAS INSTALLED), NO WARNING INDICATORS ARE COMING ON PRIOR TO DYING. AFTER IT HAPPENS I USUALLY CAN PUT IN NEUTRAL AND REFIRE IT AND CONTINUE DRIVING. THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED, I DID NOTHING AND FOR A FEW SECONDS & IT FIRED ITSELF BACK UP. MY TRUCK HAS A MANUAL 6 SPEED TRANSMISSION & HAS 55,000 MILES ON IT. I'M BEGINING TO WONDER IF IT'S A COMPUTER PROBLEM. HAS ANYONE OUT THERE EXPERINCED THE SAME PROBLEM OR OFFER SOME ADVICE ON CORRECTING IT? THANKS, RONNY
May I suggest you turn off the caps in your posts,Its like yelling .
It may be the crank position sensor ,these were a common failure with the diesels.

Welcome to FTE
Thanks for the info and the advise on typing. I'm not use to doing forums or chat rooms and recently started losing my eye sight, so that's why I type in bold so that I can proof read better. Is this sensor something that a do it yourselfer can do?
rkmaxwel,
yes the CPS sensor is an easy replacement. looking at the front of the engine it is about 11 o'clock on the main crank pulley held in with one 13mm bolt. most PSD owners carry spare sensors in the glove box. most part stores will charge $150+ for the sensor, the dealer charges much more than that, and international parts houses charge about $100. you can also purchase off of e-bay for around $55. the sensor is easily reached from the bottom of truck. I changed mine with ratchet, 13mm deep well, and small extension. this placed the ratchet in a space where it was easy to turn. if Sensor doesn't fix problem then keep old one as spare, you will need it. when it finally goes, it won't ask if it's a convienent time. this can be done on side of road if neccessary. Welcom to the forums.
