Hi guys, wondering about longer struts since I saw a question about it here.... I happened to look at my wifes Saturn today and noticed the struts on her machine are pretty sturdy looking and had a similar bolt pattern (angled connection) and were longer than my truck's.... hmmm I say, any input on this one? I am going to look around for replacement units and see if there is another way than arguing with the stealership about non-conforming parts.
Anyone know the part number or have a link to a site where I can get these?? I have an 03 X Limited 4x4 7.3 PSD and would love to have the extra 2 inches cuz I'm 6'5 tall. Thanks.
thanks for the link.......the web site is unclear as to whether they ship them as a pair or is it 20 bucks for each one so I need to order two..... do you know???
I put the 4x2 struts on my 2003 4x4 and no more bangin my head on the rear "hatch".
Just like the low profile roof rack (the rubs off the paint), I understand this was done so that the slightly taller 4x4 wouldn't hit a typical garage cieling when the rear lift gate was opened.
There used to be an outfit that sold discount struts on ebay, got mine there, same mfg. as original for about $40 pair if I rmemeber.. The longer (2 wheeldrive) struts gave me about 4 inches more under the hatch when open.
Cool, I am going to order some too.... 6'-7" and I would love to walk under without bending too far! I looked at the hood struts today and found em to be around 1-2 inches longer but.... I might as well save the time and order some proven ones.
My 2WD struts came in today, just installed them. Rear Hatch clearance with 4WD struts (stock vehicle) 72 inches. With 2WD struts 76.5 inches. Took 5 minutes to change. All you need is a 1/4 inch flat blade screw driver and something tall enough to rest the hatch on (or a second person).
Not wacking my head on my X's rear hatch anymore - priceless!
