Glow plug diagnosis
Hi guys can I pick your brain for a second. I have the opportunity to buy an 83 ford f-250 from an older guy who used this as a back up vehicle. It has 35k on a new 6.9l from ford. He's mechanically challenged and doesn't know what the problem is with the glow plugs, but basically he said that the glow plugs are staying on and burning themselves out. Is that the starter relay or something else? Also, I have a non running 86 with the same 6.9l. Can I rob glow plug parts off it or did they change along the line? Thanks, Nate

The 86 parts will fit the 83, the glow plug system changed in 87.
Probably the controller is bad, back of the drivers side head pointed straight up with about six wires going in the top of it.
My recommendation is either convert it to manual control or upgrade to the new style system.

Visit....... http://www.members.shaw.ca/k2pilot/ the manual push button switch should be there... Be carefull when removing burned out GPs..... read that on Zigg's page too.
