I just switched to amsoil. Used to have mobile 1, but the price difference between the 2 was very small, so I bought amsoil. I did a couple changes with the Motorcraft 5W20, and was less than impressed. The engine was noisy on start up, and the oil looked black as tar and that was when my truck had less than 10K on it. I will be interested in seeing how the Amsoil performs in the winter.
Well, even though I believe Texas Refinery Corp. makes about the best lube products for the money, I would never encourage someone to change for the sake of change. But I would recommend comparing the analysis as MANUFACTURED, to see just what your oil is made of. If you have to send away or can't get, say, the TBN readily, your manufacturer is not up-front with his oil specs. TRC 10w/30 multi-viscosity engine oil TBN = 15. That's an important number. Also, does your manufacturer offer free analysis? TRC will tailor a drain interval suited to your engine, the operating conditions, the fuel, and the operator. Does yours?
I have used TRC for nearly 15 years in engines of all mileages (3k to 192k) and routinely changed between 4500 and 5500, occasionally as high as 6500 without any lubrication related problems (yes, I have had some oil leaks--oil pan rust through from the outside!).
TRC Pro-Spec engine oil is a natural and synthetic blend. The last I bought was around $14.00 a gallon in a 6-gal. pail.
