Since Chilton ignored the 2000 Ranger I'm wondering if I got the manual for 1999 or 2001 would these be close enough for goverment work on my vehicle if I also had the 2000 Haynes? I'd like a second book to reference so that at the very least I had a second opinion if something was ambiguous.
Personally I think both chiltons and haynes stink, they are basically for the amature and don't get into any real detail that is worth much. I would look for one of the service manuals on CD that you can buy.
Get on Ebay and find a Ford factory service manual or an Alldata ( both are "real manuals"). Haynes is to auto repair guides like a rattle is to a baby. Haynes also make great underwear, but they screw people with their lousy manuals that lack atttention to detail. Best for Haynes to stick to underwear (no pun intended as they would probably fall off, LOL!!!!) rather than some product that they have done poorly with over the last 20+ years. On the other hand, they fill up shelves at run of the mill atuo parts stores and serve as pacifiers to unsuspecting buyers (in the beginning anyway).
