Best performance filter for early '99?

Hi,

My F-250 has a 7/98 build date PSD. I understand that I cannot use a performance filter from a later '99.

Does anyone know what's the best performance filter is availble for this early '99 engine?

Thanks!

Check out the common mods and look up Kwik mod. It's a huge Napa filter #6637 cheap and easy to do! Buy it from Fleet Filters for 20 bucks.

You will have to get a 4 in exhaust elbow (or something similar) to make fit properly on an early 99. Kwik, easy and best of all cheap. I will be looking for a cold air intake and I'm limited to either the full blown afe or the ford ais version.

The 6637 filter is the way to go. I have an early 99 and used a small coffee can until I got a 45* elbow. Works great.

I do a lot of camping down old dirt roads. For that reason alone I will get the ais eventually. Just luvin the sound of the 6637 as of now.

got the 6637 from fleefilter, used PVC pipe for now. also makes it easier to move the intake boot for getting into the drivers side of the engine compartment.

I think I am going to end up with a Ford AIS.

But I really want to try the 6637 filter. For my early '99 it looks like a straight piece of 4" PVD and an extra band clamp ought to do the trick. Hey, for the price of the 6637 it's worth a try.

For some reason I can't bring myself to buy a K&N. I think it has to do with all of their exagerated marketing back in the early 90's --they were one of the first to get into all of the performance hype stuff. Of course nowdays everyone is in the biz of selling shiny intakes for just about every car on the planet.

Having said that, there are still a few engine, most of them turbo/super charged that still benefit from a low restriction intake.
