I plan on flushing and changing my coolant in the next few weeks as its due and I also have a coolant filter kit on the way from Diesel site.
What does the majority of the Ford Fans do, use the 50/50 coolant mix or the concentrated?
On any vehicle you use coolant in, DO NOT run any richer than 50/50. The water is a much more effecient carrier of heat than antifreeze. Plus if you get it too rich then you get a bunch of scale buildup inside the cooling system because there is too high of a concentrate.
What I run with is a 50/50 mix of Shell Rotella Extended Life Coolant. It has a service life of 300,000 miles. You can then add a booster pack to get another 300,000 miles out of it, but I will simply flush it out and replace it with the same stuff if I ever get that far with this truck.
Thanks for the replies. I think I will use the 50/50 mix as it just seems eaiser that way and I won't have to chase down any distilled water.
Kwick, where do you purchase the Shell Rotella Extended Life 50/50 at?
What year did they go with the Gold Coolant? Your sig says you have an 02 and I thought it was that year that some of them got green and some got gold??
You are right. Mine might have Gold.
I haven't even checked it yet however the truck is going on five now. Since I'm adding the filter I want a fresh starting point as I've only had the truck for one fun filled year.

If you mix it without checking, you are up the creek without a paddle. I'd check what color it is first. If it is green, you can flush it throughly and then add the gold stuff. If it is the gold stuff, keep it that way. With the gold, you don't have to add the additive.

I bought it from my local supplier where I get all my oil, ATF, antifreeze, window washer fluid, etc. I had to buy a whole case, with two left over.
You could probably special order it from a vendor that carries Shell products in your local area. Expect it to take a week or two to arrive.
