Auragen and Blackbird are other possible vendors. The Auragens are used somewhat frequently in the emergency services market for apparatus too small to have a large outboard generator.
I run a 2000 watt power inverter off of mine and I love it . I have never had any problem either. It cost about $500.00 and is well worth it. Mine is wired with plugs in the bed of my truck. People oftem wonder how I can pull up and just plug anything in and have 110 volt power.
Thanks for the leads. Real Power looks like the best setup but have not received a quote yet. I'll let you all know what the different sys cost when I find out.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
They do make a gen set that sits right next to your AC compressor. Cannot remember if it was a 5kw or 7kw. Dont know what the prices was. If I come across it again, (Fire and Resuce Magazine) I'll try to pass it on.
I am currently testing a unit from RealPowerAC. I've had it for about a month and it does everything that is claime and more. I uses approx. 25hp from the engine to generate 14.8KW. It's been updated from the 12.5KW. You need to perform the High-Idle mod to get the best performance. I've run everything from a 40ft 5th wheel at full load to a 16x72ft mobile home trailer(work quarters) with a 4ton A/C unit.
The install needs to be done by a certified RealPower dealer and will cost you about $5200. Take the cost of an Onan 5.5 or 6KW generator @ $4000 I will take the RealPower any day.
Inverters don't compare in any way to this setup. I have hooked up a wave monitor to all outputs at no load, half load and full load and it's amazingly clean power.
I know someone who is running a something off his PTO(old age prevents me remembering what) and wanted to add a generator. Does any of these mount underhood and not use the PTO?
I'll pass the info along. Yeah, I know what you're sayin with the shoehorn--it's hard enough to get to the banjo bolts on the front of the head OR even tryin to replace the fanbelt much less tryin to add a generator.
Why would someone not want to use the PTO other than if you don't have a PTO? The RealPower install is incrediblely neat and clean. I've been very impressed with the setup thus far, but it is kinda pricey on one hand, but more than gets the job done. I'm sure the belt-drive setup works, but belts= power losses compared to direct drive.
I can't seem to come up with any good sites about the other mentioned products BlackBird or Auragen...?
