To do the swap clean, you will need a rear sump pan and pick-up. A front sump can be made to work, but you will have to fab your own motor mounts to raise the front of the engine so that it will clear the cross member, I've done this once. I would not recomend the front sump for any off road use due to possible engine oil starvation on steep up hill grades.

are all 460 cross bolt truck engine perch mounts the same for 73 -79 f150-f350 . am going to replace 400M in 78 f350 with 460 0ut 0f 77 150. Have mounts , perches, accessorys, brackets, manifolds, etc. TCI says c6 and converter are same for both.
It's a welding truck, weight is around 11000 to 12000 all the time. need lots of torque. suggestions on engine building welcomed.
thanks, rodburn

oil pans for 460

hi there;;; there are 3 oil pans you can use for a 460 a front sump[your stock 460 lincoln pan] or a van sump[center draw pan] or a rear sump[miloden or moroso or ford racing] i think you are going to have to use the rear sump,,if you do you also need a meeling m84d hvs oil pump and pick up... the m84d melling punp is a gerotor pump unlike the gear pump that you have in your stock '73 460.. a c-6 is the easiest and cheapest auto trans but if money is no object you can get a aod 4speed trans from performance automatic...good luck

rod burn

hey rodburn;; if you are looking for raw torque, i would suggest a 4.5 stroker kit for your 460.. if you have desk top dyno you can see for your self the difference in torque... be carefull though if you use the right cam combinations you could be looking at about 800 ft lbs at about 2000 rpm
