I am looking for a Ford truck and have found a really good deal on a 2003 6.0L. It has 124000mi on it and a clean car fax. But, because of all of the bad things I have heard about the 6.0 I'm seriously considering an older model with the 7.3. Even though the car fax report is clean I'm not sure if all work, warranty or other, shows up, (there isn't anything on the car fax except register transactions). And even if they did show up I'm not sure if that means anything in terms of reliability. I have heard that if you get a "good" 6.0 it's all good but I thought I would throw this out to see what Ford diesel owners think. Any advice will be much appreciated!
Dutchw, It sure seems like there are a lot of great deals on diesel trucks- Although I wouldn't buy one without an engine warranty from the manufacturer. You should be able to find a truck with lower miles... Keep in mind: The 6.0 has a 5 year/100,000 mile warranty with a $100 deductable (per service visit) when over 36k. Good luck
Yeah. I was thinking of buying an aftermarkt warranty but I have also thought about a newer or less milage truck too. Especially with the 6.0 I would feel better with a safety net. Thanks
I believe this may be a first for me. That truck has no warranty history at all.
It does have recall 06E17 open. That is a voluntary recall that electronically removes the exhaust pressure sensor from operation.
The only thing that would worry me about the truck is the cost of repairs, should it need any.
Well the owner said since he bought it 3 years ago all he has done is drive it and do the maintenance on it. No problems whatsoever. I guess the report, at least for warrantied repairs, means thats true. Thanks again for the info. I don't get this kind of service when I pay fot it.
