My filter minder continually needs to be reset with the new AIS I installed, I don't know if this is a common thing or do I need to correct anything, I installed this filter in a stock 02. Thanks for any help!!!
From what I understand, the filterminder that came with the AIS is very sensitive, most people put their stock filter minder in its place. Also do you have the fender sleeve?
I've had the AIS in for about a month with the ZooDad and Fender sleeve and the filter minder has never moved. Even during a couple of WOT's during a test drive.
After doing the ZooDad I could really notice the air being sucked in at the front.
Check and see how close the snorkel is to the bulkhead on the core support. Mine was so close it was almost blocking the opening off and the filter minder would show about 1/2 way, after a hard run. I did the Zoo Dad mod and all is well. The filter minder does not move now.
I just didnt Like the idea of cutting a hole in my AIS for the fender mod, although I do have the Zoo dad mod and have never seen the gauge move yet.. ABout 20k on my new AIS so far..
I put in the new Ford AIS (the blue filter from the 6.0) in my 2000 F350 and noticed the intake was very close to the core support. I hardly ever notice the filter-minder move before, but it sure does now. Where do you get the fender sleeve and what exactly does it do?
You have to cut a hole in the bottom left side of the filter housing and install this cone shaped sleeve between the new hole and the big oval shaped hole body of the truck just above the fenderwell and directly behind the AIS housing. It works for a lot of people, but I didn't want to go that route. I followed the intake snorkel up to the front of the truck and did this:
It's called a Zoodad Mod, named after the guy that started it.
Very cool, I probably won't have a big snow issue in Texas! But how about bugs? Did you install a screen and how did you locate the location to drill? Looks like he used a hole saw, any info on the sizes? Thanks for the link.
I had a bug issue with mine and I had to clear them from the bottom of the filter and reinstall. What I would do instead of a screen is to install some sort of deflector plate in front of the hole on the back side of the grill that would prevent any sort of large object from entering the port. A screen can be clogged, but with a plate, only silt sized particles would make it around the plate and into the hole. The filter would then take care of the rest.
I made a 3" by 8" window screen and mounted it over where the ZooDad hole is held in place with some quik release tabs so removing it and cleaning it is easy. So far it has withstood a "Junebug Storm" and has not needed cleaning.
By putting window screen over the Zoo-Dad hole, you have cut your flow in half. A screen with 1/4" holes or so, just small enough to keep the big chunks out and still flow a bunch of air.
