we are converting my buddy's 66 F100 with a 352 and 3 speed to a C6. The nub on the front of the convertor bottoms out in the crankshaft. The pilot bushing has been removed from the crank. He got a flexplate from the junkyard. All the torque convertors we have checked (FMX,C6,AOD) have a 1 3/8" nub diameter. Did Ford make a smaller nub on torque convertors? Does anyone have the part number for the correct flexplate?
Best I remember the convertor from any engine will fit in any C-6. the ones for 429/460, and the 351M/400 were the same convertor, except for some of the early 429's had a larger pilot hole in them. All of the FE series engines were the same, with a larger pilot, than the 460/429's. The 300 six, 302, 351, C and W were all the same convertor. When you install the convertor in the transmission, you have 3 set of splines to lock into. When it is in all the way, none of the convertor should stick out past the bellhousing, If you place a board across the bellhousing, the convertor should clear it.

when you fit the convertor to the flexplate, it bottoms out in the crank before you could get the nuts tightened to the flexplate. The transmission is even in the picture yet.
