I was interested in getting a service manual for my 98 Expedition. Does anyone have any input as to which one to buy? I have purchased the Haynes ones before and found them to be lacking.
I've seen Chilton's paperbacks, but they're pretty much on par with the Hayne's. I've also seen computer cds at auto places, though I've never tried 'em out. Your best bet would be to get the factory service manual. I've got one for my acura and it's great. But these are quite pricey.
I own a Chilton manual and it's ok, but I've learned far more from this site than I'll ever learn from that manual. Still, good to have for a quick reference though.
I've owned Hayne's in the past and they're basically interchangeable IMO. Did I hear that they are owned by the same company now, or am I making that up?
I'm still looking for the "best, super-duper, easy-to-use, exhaustive" manual.
You could also check out www.alldata.com. I use it for my 04 Expedition and have really liked it. It also lists TSB and Recall information. You can see how it works by going to the website and looking at one of their "example" cars.
