Unhappy Remote Keyless Entry

Does anyone know where I can find a RKE module for my 03? I bought this truck used and the dealer lied to me and said this truck was eqiuped with RKE but it is not when I discovered this I called them and they said tuff, so of course I promised to give them lots of free advertising that they don't want. Any help would be apprecated I don't realy want to give ford $ 190.00 for a new one and I am not having much luck at the salvage yards.

If your truck did not come with it, you would need more than just the module. Why not just install and aftermarket keyless entry, or alarm, or remote start system.

if it has power locks then more then likely it has the module..usually under the dash..has a thin black wire (antenna) that comes off it. Did they just give you a key and no remote? You can get the the remotes off ebay relatively cheap and they come with instructions on how to program them..i bought one awhile back for my 03 and remember it being easy to do.

I would also suggest Ebay. You can usually check the numbers to make sure it will work and programming them is not too difficult. I also have a 2003 with the RKE system. The back of my remote has the following:
Ford Motor Company
2L3T-15K601-AA
FCC ID: CWTWB1U331
CAN: 1788 104 575

Hope this helps.

Whereabouts would you look for that module? Fairview

They gave me remotes but did not program them I do have power locks however. I tried to program them per the instructions in the manual and it doesn't seem to work (the locks never go up and down) so I went to the ford garage and they ran the VIN number and found that my truck doesn't not have the RKE from the factory I will look tonight and see if it is there and maybe somthing is unpluged?

look under the dash around the steering column..might have to take that one panel off to find it.

If you have confirmed that the truck was not built with RKE, you won't be able to just plug a black box in. Ford makes accessory install kits for these items, I did the one for remote start on my 04 Ex, but the manual had all the combinations. Wiring mods are required. Look on the Ford site under accessories.

Remote Keyless Entry

To really find out if your truck is equipped with RKE, just turn the ignition switch between off & on about 10 times in rapid succession. If the power door locks activate on about the 8th cycle, you have RKE. Leave the key in the on position, and at that point, take your remote (all of them if more than one--maximum of 4) and 1 by 1 press any button on each one of them. The door locks will cycle again after each remote is programmed to the truck. Turn off the ignition--the locks will cycle again, indication the end of the programming cycle.

Reprogramming F-150 Power Locks

New to Ford Pickup truck, although have Mustang and Explorer. Anyhow will Ron's directions apply to my F-150 as well?

Welcome to FTE.

Yes. It's the exact same procedure. Just keep in mind that ALL of the remotes have to be programmed in when doing this, not just the new controller. This procedure wipes out any previous controllers programmed. So just make sure that you have all of the controllers you want programmed with you before you start.

RKE-remote keyless entry

Hi all,
Thanks for the info, you all actually answered some of my questions already. I have a 97 ranger xlt xtended cab and I do have RKE. However, it is currently not working. I changed the batteries on the modules, nothing. I cycled the ignition and still nothing. Any ideas? I am thinking now that the black box is kaput. However, I didn't even know where to look which you guys answered for me, so thanks. I also have been quoted $190 for the controller. Does anyone know where to get it cheaper? Junkyard? do I need to install a whole new system? Any recommendations?
Thanks

Try Ebay. I saw the RKE controllers on there a while ago. They were cheap too!

Remote Keyless Entry

BumperB,
Thanks for the reply. I will try eBay. Yesterday, I tested all the fuses and that wasn't the problem either. I also once again cycled the ignition but the door locks didn't work, which I already knew. So, the only thing I can think of is the controller module.
Thanks
